Delipidation

There are two main types of delipidation: active or passive. Active delipidation requires either SmartBatch+ or SmartClear II Pro. Active delipidation involves a few more steps but is significantly faster than passive delipidation. Passive delipidation is slower but less hands on and only requires an incubator. Active delipidation is suggested for larger samples such as rat brains, guinea pig brains, etc. Click the buttons below to move to the desired protocol.
Passive delipidation doesn’t require any special equipment, just a temperature controlled shaking incubator. Delipidation time is dependent on the size of the sample, so if your sample is small (<1.5 mm) this is the recommended protocol.

Use this protocol if you have access to a SmartBatch+. Active delipidation is faster than passive, taking only two days, but is much more hands on and requires a higher quantity of materials. Read about the benefits of a SmartBatch+ device here.

Use this protocol if you have access to a SmartClear II Pro. Active delipidation is faster than passive, taking only two days, but is much more hands on and requires a higher quantity of materials. SmartClear II Pro is a legacy product that is no longer sold.
